What is a Triple Fusion?
Sometimes due to a sever flatfoot or due to arthritis the joints around the ankle must be fused. A triple fusion is when the joint below the ankle (Subtalar joint) and in front (Talonavicular and Calcaneocuboid) of the ankle are fused. This can be done with keyhole surgery (Arthroscopy) and special screws. Recovery includes a combination of a cast and boot for 8 to 12 weeks. Full recover can take up to 1 year.
Following recovery, the ankle join will have normal mobility. Most patients will be able to return to activity.
